This is a submission from Torpid Tyrant. Read and enjoy and be enlightened.

i just got finished reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. it's a must read for anyone who wishes to be a competent citizen and human being. of course i would also include in the list 1984 by George Orwell, The Abolition of Man by C.S. Lewis, The U.S. Constitution and it's amendments (in chronological order), The U.S. Declaration of Independence., The Bible or if you refuse at least Proverbs, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky. and these are the ones i can think of off hand. you may notice a slight leaning toward negative-utopia, totalitarianism, and basically things that accentuate the lackings of mankind. the reason is this; you, yes you, are quite full of yourself as am i. you cannot deny it and prove you denial to be rational. people are inherantly prideful in a bad way. my experience has shown that when you confront the written word saying, more or less, you suck, it helps bring the reader down to earth, so to speak. as for the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, well *takes a breath* by reading the documents that are the accepted foundation of our great yet not so great country gives the reader a standard to which they can compare their current economic, social, and political position and situation. when the now slightly more enlightened reader realizes that what is said in the old fashion Constitution and D of I has been some how unofficially been revamped and construed to mean something it was never supposed to mean. one interesting example is the revelation that "separation of church and state" is no where to be found in either document. it is originally found in a letter of response from Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Association soon after his election as president. both the letter from the original letter from the Danbury Baptist Association and the response from Thomas Jefferson are quite interesting and exemplitory of how the United States was originally designed to work and should still be. you can find both here dissect both letters please!!! and email me with your responses. and also email me if you know of some books i should add to my list.
